My Running Story: Tanya Clark

How/when did you start running? I was a late bloomer!  I started running in 2001 after having my second child.  I was tired all of the time and stressed most days.  A co-worker suggested I try running.  My first training was for the San Antonio RNR.  I met a great group of people and have not stopped running since.

What inspires you to be active? My mother died right after I graduated college.  I want to feel good, stay healthy and be a role model for my children.  I know the best example is to practice what I preach.

What has running/walking taught you about perseverance/commitment/goal setting? Running is amazing.  Regardless of how I am feeling, my body enables me to keep going.  I don’t like to be cold, but I have run in rain, sleet, snow and below freezing temperatures.  Getting out the door is not always easy, but I am ALWAYS happy when I finish.  The sense of personal accomplishment is good for the psyche.  Training for 5 ½ marathons has taught me that I can push myself and the only limitations are the ones I place on myself.

How has the Andiamo challenges motivated/inspired/supported you during these past months? 2020 was an incredibly stressful year.  Family member fell ill, our business temporarily closed,my children had to come home mid semester, run groups stopped meeting and runs were canceled… Running challenges like the Andiamo group offered, helped get my mind off of the negative and focus on my body, my health and my goals.  I ran further than I had pre Covid, just to complete the challenges!  I finished every virtual raced I signed up for…even completing two 10K races!  My daughter signed up for the Andiamo running challenges and we ran together when she was home.  I love seeing all of the stories posted by people staying in shape and keeping the running community going. Thank you Andiamo!

Tanya has been running our races (and winning 1st place overall female in most of them) since we began organizing running events more than 4 years ago! She has also completed all the Andiamo Mile Challenges since last March. Thanks for being part of the Andiamo running community, Tanya! You are such an inspiration! #Keepruning #keepgoing #yocorroeveryday
