My Running Story: Tony and Cathy Arnone

How did your running journey begin?

My wife and I stared running in 2009. Prior to that, I personally could not, and had no desire to run a quarter mile.

My life prior had been dedicated to amateur body building. In my late 30’s I started experiencing sport related injuries such as a ruptured bicep tendon, torn tricep and 3 surgeries to repair a complete rotator cuff tear.

During my recovery, and inability to weight lift, my wife suggested we start jogging. I agreed and was surprised the outdoor experience was better than I would have ever imagined. We both agreed to continue this activity.

Weeks after starting our jogging experience, my wife shared that she signed us both up for a half marathon. I immediately inquired, you know a half marathon is 13.1 miles, right and we just stared running a couple miles...?  She was aware and felt that was the best way to keep us committed to running (and slowing me down on the weight lifting).

We ran our first Rock N’ Roll half marathon in Scottsdale, AZ in 2010 and have since ran a full marathon and 25+ subsequent half marathons around the country. Relocating to San Antonio in 2013, our running activities slowed down.

Although we ran the Rock N’ Roll San Antonio and Dallas races couple times, our running events had slowed down.

How has the Andiamo challenges motivated you during these past months?

We found Andiamo and their events which helped us get back in the running mode.

The latest October 100 mile challenge is just what we needed. We signed up for this event and days later we registered for our next half marathon! Andiamo has been a great source of encouragement and fun activities.

Congrats on your accomplishments, Tony and Cathy! Thanks for sharing your story and gracias for being part of the Andiamo running community!
